alright, so I know I have no room to complain .. West Quad probably has the best location out of all the dorms.

however, I was really interested in a place on the Hill. I've been to Ann arbor a lot and for some reason it has always appealed to me! I love the tennis courts and it just seems like a nice location overall.

plus the furniture in alice lloyd/mojo (where i would want to be) is much nicer than west quad's!

but I definitely need a second opinion. preferably someone who goes to umich. is location pretty much the defining quality for a dorm or what?

am i out of my mind for wanting to switch? haha

i believe i am staying in west quad, but i was assigned a triple – hoping its not too tiny!

and i DO like the sound of a classy pre-war building :)

also, @kobudnik, how did you like WQ?? any major drawbacks? though i’m sure the sheer convenience of being located 5 mins away from class outweighs any negatives!

Umichgirl, I absolutely loved it. No drawbacks at all. Dining hall is meh but SQ is right there and you have the food in the union. Loved being able to go back to the dorm between classes and stuff. Rooms are huge. And yea the triples are nice I had friends in triples in WQ and we always hung out in there because of all the space.

And seaslipper, the hill may be close to the CCRB but the IM building is also a quite easy walk from WQ and there’s also a bus right in front of the union that’ll take you there.

I lived in west quad my freshman year as an engineer. In retrospect, I would have rather lived on the Hill. My hall had a lot of sophomores which is something you want to avoid at all costs. Walking to Denison (where practically all math and science classes are located) is dreadful and going to north campus is even worse (the union bus stop is horrible). Had i lived on the Hill, I would have 1. been closer to denison 2. cc little has buses show up every three minutes 3. ccrb and tennis courts super close 4. mojo has THE BEST food on campus 5. social social social freshman every where and you’ll get really close with your hall.On a non academic note, all the good fraternities are out south and east from hill, saving yourself yet again another west quad walk. the best football pregames will be on hill street too.

Lol some of my best friends are sophomores, so I’m thankful I didn’t avoid them at all costs! And if OP isn’t an engineer, half of your advice isn’t relevant. CCRB is close, but as I said so is the im building. Tennis courts won’t matter 3/4 of the year and how often are you really going to play tennis even when the weather permits/you’re willing to play an hour of tennis but can’t make a ten minute walk? And basing a dorm location on where the “good frats” are is silly (OP is a girl) This is also negated by all the short walks you’ll have to class. West Quad is prime location.
