Should I stick with my remedial classes and move on or try the COMPASS test again?

I recently took the COMPASS testing at my community college of choice and as it stands I’ll be able to skip reading classes entirely yet I have to take remedial writing for 1 semester and remedial math for 2. While I’m disappointed that I didn’t get a higher score in the writing section, I feel like taking remedial math would be a good refresher course since I’ve always been terrible at math. But at the same time, I realize i’m taking several semesters worth of courses for no credit and may end up affecting the path towards my career of choice. Thanks in advance to those who read and respond

Failing math would likely affect the path toward your carrer of choice. Or, at very least, your degree.

Happykid had to take two semesters of remedial math at her CC, and still managed to graduate on time and with more transferrable credits than needed for her degree. There is no reason to think that you can’t do the same if you plan well.

Sit down with the advisor for your probable major, and work out a formal plan for getting through your coursework. You might need to take some classes next summer, or in a January term if your CC offers that. But three extra classes could also mean that you only need to take one extra class each semester for three semester. Lots of students find that they can carry an extra class if they are disciplined about their study habits.
