My plan as of now is to attend a community college for two years in order to work and save money for medical school, get my basic classes out of the way, and to save my parents money. I am graduating next January, which will be a semester early considering I am on my last semester of being a Junior right now in NC. I want to go to UNC Chapel Hill, and I know I could easily transfer in if I went to a community college.

My question is, should I still apply even though I am considering community college first? And if you think I should, when should I apply since I am graduating early? I would probably start that fall and work for one semester. And do you think UNC Chapel Hill is a good school?

Your advice is greatly appreciated!

I’m not sure of when the deadline is or how much scholarship money they typically give, but if you find that those two aspects are favorable, why not? You never know what any school is ultimately looking for in the realm of scholarship students, so you might as well just in case they might want to give you some serious cash. It’d be different if you wanted to apply to several schools, but since you’re set on one, it’s worth a shot if they let you apply again a few years later if need be. From what ice heard it’s a fantastic school, fairly competitive, a lot of in-staters accepted. Also, have you filled out the FAFSA?

Okay I may have read that wrong… Are you applying next year? In that case, I give the same advice but disregard the deadline bit and fill out a practice FAFSA instead. It’ll give you an idea of how much federal aid you’ll probably be eligible for.
