Doesn’t your sister go to Barnard?

Those are not hidden costs and not different than any other school.

Doesn’t your sister go to Barnard?

Those are not hidden costs and not different than any other school.

Nope she goes to Columbia. I posted about Barnard just because my sister has mentioned that she wouldn’t like to go to Barnard because of the weird dynamics between Columbia and Barnard.

It’s true, I only have experience with one college but none of my relatives or family friends have had financial experiences like we’ve had. Schools don’t try to trick them into paying more money and they don’t have to pay for field trips and what not. You’d think the 55k a year would take care of that…

How about if your sister posts her experience first-hand?

I also don’t think this is a fair criticism of Columbia. Columbia has arguably the best campus wide culture initiative in the country and it is a model other schools are following/copying. Part of that initiative is designed to make it cheaper for all students to enjoy New York and incorporate the unparalleled resources of the city into the classroom. Here’s a link: http://www.cuarts.com/index.php.

Others schools are exactly the same as Columbia in requiring its undergraduates to have health insurance. For example: [Swarthmore College :: Health Center :: Mandatory Insurance Policy](Important Annual Insurance Requirement :: Student Health and Wellness :: Swarthmore College).

No, I think she has better things to do than post on CC. YOu don’t have to take everything I say as the holy grail. I’m telling you what I’ve heard. Most colleges require insurance but very few make it this hard to cancel insurance so they can try to trick you into giving them more money.

Smiley picked Penn

Yay! Good luck Smiley!

Whoa, really!? I honestly thought that s/he would choose Columbia based on his/her opening post. Nice, well you really can’t go wrong with either so yeah, congrats!

I almost enrolled at Dartmouth last night. O.o

But I’m glad I stuck to Columbia! =D

Roar, Lion, Roar!

yupp! haha, i chose Penn. I’m so excited and happy with my decision! Thanks everyone!

You chose wrong. =P

Columbia>Penn [State].

Roar, Lion, Roar!

WOOH! i’m glad we won you over, imanapp!

@joso2015:

I love Columbia! And nothing, not Stanford, not Dartmouth, not Duke, could stop me from going there. =)

I still can’t believe I’m a Columbian, a part of the most exciting place of Higher Education in the world right now! =D

geez… someone’s on the Kool-Aid… ^

LOL. I just know that at Columbia, I’ll be able to do everything I want to do. It’s just a place that would make it easier for me to achieve all I’ve set myself up for in undergrad. To me, that’s more important than a “tight-knit” campus, which frankly I can get through involvement with Frats and cultural organizations.

And seriously, truazn, cheer up! You’re about to be an alum. Be more proud of your alma mater. Yeah, it sucks socially and is a ***** to deal with, but no matter what you’ll be associated with it for your entire life. Might as well be happy with it, no? :)

Appreciate your optimism, and congrats on your admit to Columbia. All cynicism aside, Columbia is a life-changing place - but the caveat is that you must seek those opportunities out in a very proactive manner. There are definitely things that makes Columbia different from some peer institutions, but to be fair, from my empirical experience, Columbia alums are frequently among the most capable in the real world - and that probably has a lot to do with the fact that Columbia is a mini-real-world crash course. By the time you survive (er, graduate), you’ll be well versed with navigating harsh social terrains and inefficient bureaucracies (which like I said, is the real world).

Actually very much enjoyed the Senior Dinner the other night. First time since orientation the whole class was under one (tent) roof. Wish we had more events similar to that though between orientation and graduation…
