Should I still major in something related to arts

Hello I am currently a high school student. I have two years left and I am currently already thinking about what college to do and major and everything. I am really interested in a major for either game design or animation because I want to pursue a career that involves drawing but currently I cannot draw if my life depended on it and I have practiced non stop and have yet to show drastic improvements and I am starting to worry if I had to pick a different major because of this. Some advice would be appreciated.

Have you taken any art classes? My D also couldn’t draw very well in high school, despite having taken her high school’s art classes. She did a summer pre-college program at Pratt and came out of there vastly improved. I know I’m just her mother, but I think her drawings are fantastic now. Sometimes, it takes a really good teacher to show you how to improve, and then a lot of practice.

Are you interested in computer science? Much of game design is computer programming based.
Take some art classes and see if you improve.

To get into a good program for animation, you need to have excellent drawing skills. See if you can get better, but if not, try exploring other options. You still have time!

Game Design doesn’t involve much drawing, animation does. Maybe you mean Game art. That is a different thing. Game Design is programming. Here’s something to consider… do you want a career that ‘involves’ drawing or do you want to draw as a career? My son draws night and day but even he gets sick of drawing for classes and complains about ‘drawing things that don’t interest him.’ Well, reality check, if you get an art job, you are going to draw what THEY want, not what you want. Can you live with that? Competition is fierce for these art-related jobs. You have to not only be able to draw, you have to be darn good at it. My son took art classes at the local comm. college while he was in HS so that’s something to consider if you are wanting to improve your skills.
