I am a senior and I took the AB exam as a junior and got a 2. Should I still try and take BC or should I go to AP stats?

Since there is overlap between the AB and BC exams, and 2 is bad but not that bad, you are probably better off taking BC. BC is more prestigious and also you’d have a chance to “show” you did better.

However, since you’ll be a senior, it won’t really matter about your test score as you’ll be admitted by then. But if you show that you are getting As in BC, that might mitigate getting a 2 on the AB AP test…

I would definitely say take BC if you are targeting engineering or physics.

IMHO…

I would go for BC. If you do well on the exam, any credit that you would have received for AB would be superseded anyway.

I would say go with stat especially if you don’t plan on majoring in engineering or science in college. Statistics is required for most majors and if you’re not science or engineering then you probably won’t see calculus ever again.

@jimmyboy23 stat is not required for most majors. calc is required for a lot of majors actually, not just science or engineering. please don’t spread misinformation.

I agree, take calc BC, do well in the course and make up for you getting a 2 on the AB exam. BC covers AB too, so you’ll learn what you may not have grasped before.

Depends on your major as others said. AP Stat is supposed to be easy though.

@guineagirl96 What I meant by that is that most majors will still have to take stats because it’s part of the gen-ed program at most schools and if you’re not going into science or engineering then you will rarely see more than a calc 1 applications specific to your major (business and economics majors usually have these kinds of classes). So, more people need to take stats in college and would be the best option for someone who doesn’t plan on going into engineering or science. If they are going into these fields then they would be better off taking Calc BC even if they end up failing because they’ll be better prepared for college.

@jimmyboy23 more people don’t need to take stats. If you are talking about filling the gen ed, numerous math classes and even cs classes usually fulfill this. A lot of people still take calc to fulfill it anyways. There is no explicit “stats” gen-ed requirement. And again, engineering and science field are not the only majors required to take calc. IMO AP Stat is an elective math class because its not part of the normal progression of math classes. It should be taken concurrently with another math class, or if you exceed your school’s math curriculum and still need a math class.
