Should I still take the SAT, eventhough majority of the colleges don’t require it anymore? If I do take it, will I have an advantage to those who didn’t take it?

IF you generally score well on standardized test than most certainly YES. If you are above average or below you might hit the jackpot this year given that schools might not require the test. Why not submit something in which you excel? Same thing goes for APs and subject tests. Students who excel submit, those with low scores often go the optional route.

Not all colleges have waived the requirement. Do you want to be sitting there in December not being able to apply to a school that you just found that sounds like a good match, because they require a standardized test and you didn’t take it? Why unnecessarily limit yourself?

I agree with the above poster. I would try to cover all your bases just in case.

@sarabb789 This is a great question – we recently covered this topic in a College Confidential article, which you can find here: https://insights.collegeconfidential.com/test-optional-admission

And sign up soon. Given all the craziness, we expect that people will sign up early. I have already signed up my Junior for tests in the Fall and Spring. If anything happens with Covid and a test doesn’t happen/or your worried about spread there will still be some options left.

I question your premise, and believe that for test optional schools, an above average score will still be advantageous.

Taking it at least gives you the option. Plus something for the schools where it’s not optional
