Should I still try to apply to FSU?

So, in my ignorance, I missed the first notification deadline for FSU. When I first realized this, I blew it off because I had my acceptance from Florida Southern College since the first week of October. But the more I think about, I don't want to just give up on going to FSU. I know the next deadline for admission is January 20th, but I won't receive an answer until March 17th. I feel that receiving an answer in March is really late in the admissions game and I already have my acceptance and scholarships from Florida Southern, but at the same time Florida Southern is a private college that costs a lot more.
I really love both schools, but cost worries me for Florida Southern and the later notification worries me for FSU. (Also, an extension of the later notification worry is the housing situation by that time. Will there be any chance for on campus housing by then?)
So, I don't know whether or not to wait and see with FSU or matriculate at Florida Southern and see how it works out after the first semester and then transfer to FSU if it doesn't work out. Or, if money doesn't permit for FSC nor time for FSU, I might fall back on UWF for a semester and then transfer to FSU. Does anyone have some advice they can give a confused first generation in college kid?

Apply. If accepted, then you can make these decisions.

Apply – its a couple of hours and $30. My son missed the first deadline last year and applied late. His stats were okay for FSU (31 ACT superscored, but only 3.2 W gpa) and he probably would have gotten fall admission if he had applied for the first round. Instead, he got offered spring admission, and will start on Jan. 4. FSU allows their spring freshman admits to take community college credits in the fall so they aren’t necessarily behind schedule.

I am against students accumulating tons of undergraduate debt so I have some bias against private schools (although I do think that some of them are good). Too often people (especially those who don’t have much family experience with college) think that the high price tag equals a superior education which is simply not the case.

Apply, you have until May 1 to make a firm decision. Good luck!

They are very good at computer science. Very competitive though. SFU provides good aid as well.

It is hard to compare a small LAC with a major research U. They are just totally different institutions. What is your planned major and what do you want to do with your life after undergrad? And what are your stats?

Well, at FSC I plan to major in Music Management, which FSU doesn’t offer. But if going to FSU, then my intended major is Japanese with a focus on business, which FSC doesn’t offer, and minor in music. After college, I hope to work for Disney in some way. Maybe in Disney Interactive or in the Entertainment department. Or maybe Square Enix.
Here’s a quick overview of my stats:
-GPA Weighted: 3.91
-GPA Unweighted: 3.35-? I’m not sure about this, though.
-ACT Composite: 26 (I have yet to know this December’s score since I took it again to improve)
-SAT: 1830
-Student at an International Baccalaureate program
-Highly involved in the performing arts in school
–Superior Ratings on solo vocal performance at state and district level
–Secretary for Troupe 3925 for two years
–Secretary for Golden Voices this year
–Member of Golden Voices for four years
–Florida All-State Concert Chorus participant in 2009 & 2010
–Polk County’s All-County High School Chorus participant in 2008 & 2009

This is just off the top of my head, so feel free to ask for more stats if needed.

Your stats are solid for FSU, but not super-high (for FSU – they are good stats). The problem with the later application at FSU is simply that there aren’t a lot of slots open. I’d still apply – you’re in the middle 50% and it can’t hurt to apply. More options are a good thing.
