Should I study even though I won't be taking the SAT till 12/2011?

Hello! I'm going to be a sophomore in September and was wondering if I should start studying for the SAT over the summer.

I took 2 practice exams from the blue Collegeboard book last month with no practice and got:

1st try:
Math: 730
Reading: 560
Writing: 610 (assuming I got an 8 on the essay)
Total: 1900

2nd try:
Math: 750
Reading: 560
Writing: 650 (assuming I got an 8 on the essay)
Total: 1960

Granted, I'm taking Algebra II atm so that's why my Math score is pretty high. I know my CR score is ridiculously low; I've never been a fan of reading long boring passages because I tend to lose focus.
Should I start studying now if I want to get 230/2300+ on the PSAT/SAT? I really want to get into UPenn, Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, or NYU. Thanks!

Read =)! You don’t need to study for the SAT specifically, but avid reading in your sophomore year will help you with the CR section of the SAT later.

Relax and focus on your grades.

I would start the “menial” tasks now, like learning vocabulary and learning grammar.

It should never get in the way of your extracurricular activities and your academics though.

Take the most challenging English classes you can. Sign up to take the PSAT soph and junior years.

One of my kids went from 181 PSAT freshman year to 2290 SAT. Did no prep AT ALL until the PSAT junior year, and nothing more than the Blue Book.
