Should I submit my 1360 SAT score?

I have a very average SAT score of 1360 not super scored (600 writing & 760 math). Should I submit my score to any of the following colleges to strengthen my application: Purdue, UIUC, Penn state, Trinity College, and Case Western

Thanks!

What’s your home state?

My daughter got into GA Tech EA with a 1320 (in state). She also got EA at UGA & Auburn. She had great leadership and good ECs. You need to be more than a test score and GPA.

What major?

Purdue is not test optional. If you’ve sat for the exam, you are expected to send in your score.

What is your major and what is your home state?

In general, unless you are an URM, or a new immigrant with language barrier and exceptional circumstances, you should not submit a test score that is below the 50th% for accepted students for that school.

In addition, if the rest of your application looks as if you would have gotten higher scores (very high GPA, very high AP scores), then don’t submit it.

Not that I disagree with you, but someone must be submitting these 1-50th percentile scores. And they aren’t all “URM, or a new immigrant with language barrier and exceptional circumstances”.

So of the 50% of admitteds who are attending and who submitted scores, and who are in the lower half of the SAT score continuum - who are they? Can’t all be athletes and legacies and donors kids.

Your SAT should be fine for Penn State. Many kids with lower get main. Is $50k/year worth it is the better question. I think they used to weight test scores worth 1/3 and grades 2/3 for admission. Good luck.

Purdue yes.

UIUC - can go either way.

Penn State - yes

Trinity - yes

Case Western - No

That’s my opinion.

Good luck.

They are people who have some quality that the college is seeking, that outweighs the lower score. That could mean anyone with a powerful hook or extreme spike. This is why, for unhooked, non-spiky applicants, they’re likely to need scores higher than the average, and probably higher than the 75th%, in order to have the score work in their favor.

It’s more than an opinion – the data actually supports your advice. I think the only caveat is that the available data is for all admitted students; it is not specific to intended major or degree program.

It’s opinion - because it’s what I would do - but I based my opinion on the data

People over rate Purdue - it’s not difficult to get into if you are not engineering.

That’s why my first question to the OP was major - before I gave assessment.

If the OP said engineering, my answers would have been different  and maybe a - unless you want to go to Trinity (and maybe PSU), expand your search.

What is your GPA? I think that matters as well.

I plan to major in neuroscience and I live in Arizona

My GPA is currently 3.93 UW and 4.833 W

You’ll get into all the schools (Case would be the possible exception; they’re need aware and crazy stuff happens but my guess is you’d be in) - but you won’t find a better deal and a finer opportunity than U of A. So I hope you applied there too!!

Good luck to you.

Okay thank you! My safety school is actually ASU’s honors program (Barrett). And I actually got deferred from Case  but I am kind of guessing it might be because I turned in my financial aid documents late despite all the emails telling me my application is incomplete LOL.

But thanks for your feedback!!
