Should I submit my ACT score???

Hi all! I have a dilemma here… I recently received my ACT score from the December date. Everything was at least descent except for the science section, which I got 27.

My overall score is 32 and I’m applying to USC, UNC, Michigan, and NYU. Just as a reference, the SAT score I have already sent to these schools is 1490.

So… should I send in my ACT score? Thanks in advance!

1490 is 99th percentile. 32 is 97th percentile. Generally, I would not send the ACT unless there’s a particular section score that is important to you to show. Also check the most recent admissions data you can find for each school (preferably on the school website) to see how your scores compare, as some schools have higher or lower SAT ranges even with the same ACT ranges.

What are your other ACT subscores, for math, reading, and English? What are your 2 SAT subscores? On the common data set for each school- do they list mid 50% for English and math subscores? If so how do your subscores compare?

Reason I’m asking is that the science section is the least important of the 4 ACT subscores. If your ACT math and English are very high I would submit both the SAT and the ACT. I think your SAT is overall a little higher based on concordance tables but if you have some great subscores in the ACT (esp math and English) it is worth having those on record.

Hi Ir4550, thanks for responding!

My subscores for the ACT are English:35, Math: 34, Reading:32, and Science: 27. For the SAT, I got a 700 on Reading and Writing and a 790 on Math. So in a way, the two scores complement each other.

I checked the stats for all the schools I applied to, 32 is either at or above their average ACT score, but at the same time, 27 is definitely below. So you see why I would have this dilemma.

I think I’d stick with the SAT.

ACT 32 is slightly below SAT 1490 but not far off in terms of percentile or on the so-called concordance table. Your ACT English and reading section scores may help your SAT section score at 700. If money is not an issue, it would not hurt but may help slightly by submitting both. ACT32 is below admission average at UMich while SAT 1490 is slightly above.

With those subscores I think it will help more than hurt to submit the ACT
