Should I submit my Latin Subject Test Score?

I got a 750 in Latin, which is the 87th percentile according to this (http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/pdf/SAT-Subject_Tests_Percentile_Ranks_2011.pdf). I got an 800 in World History and 800 in Math Level II, should I just submit those? I wanted to use my Latin Subject Test to show how much I love languages, despite the fact I didn’t continue to take AP Latin (ran out of room in my schedule). I plan to apply to Ivies (Harvard, Yale, and maybe Cornell).

Also, can I send it to some colleges and not others? Because maybe I could still send it to some of the less selective colleges I’ll be applying to (I just feel really bad about completely ignoring it, lol)

Let’s start with your options.

Yale and Cornell require all scores. No getting around it. Harvard allows you to score choice, so you can choose which two to send.

Having said that, the writing and processing of applications will be a major time suck, so whatever you can do to make it easier, you should do. One way I would do this is just send all scores to all colleges. That way, you do not have to keep track of what was sent to who, ensuring that you did not violate any of their rules, etc.

Now let’s move into the reality. A 750 is a 750 is a 750. In other words, it’s a great score, whether it’s in math, chemistry, or latin. No admissions officer is going to cross-reference scores with percentiles. Not a single solitary one. In this case, the percentiles are a result of the fact that students self-select which subject tests to take and, of course, they are all going to choose the ones in which they perform best. No real mystery here.

Next dose of reality: Admissions officers are not going to use subject tests to read between the lines. They will not assume you have a love for languages based upon your Latin score. If that’s an important message to convey, work it into your essays. Similarly, some applicants think that showing a subject test in history in addition to math and physics will prove that they are well-rounded. Well, maybe. But, if the college wanted you to show them that you are well-rounded, they would require all applicants submit a STEM score and a humanities score.

@skieurope Thank you! I was happy with my score until I saw how many people wouldn’t accept anything below an 800 on this website… guess I’ll just submit them all then

I think you have to send all of the scores anyway, but all three scores are good and should be submitted

@whuff24 Thank you! Will do
