Should I submit my SAT scores to Bates?

Should I submit my SAT scores to Bates?

My SAT scores are lackluster.. ( 590 CR, 630 Math and 640 writing ) but they are a little higher than average. I don't want them to think I scored worse than I did so I didn't even submit them, but I don't want them to see the scores and decide they don't want me, you know?

So, should I submit them, or not? Am I at any disadvantage if I don't?

Also, I scored a 28 on the ACT... I understand these scores aren't great, but I have a 3.94 unweighted GPA and will have taken 14 honors/AP classes by the end of high school, so I am hoping that I have a chance of getting in.

I’d leave them off if I were you since your GPA is above the average of enrolled students and your SATs are below the 25 percentile mark. Bates really does mean it when they say they won’t hold a lack of standardized test scores against you. According to Bates admissions, the best predictor of how a student will fare at Bates is the student’s academic record in challenging high school courses.

Oh, okay!

Will this hurt my chances of getting aid? I know at some schools, if I don’t submit my scores then I won’t get as much merit-based aid and such. Is this true for Bates?

Nope, SAT-optional literally means just that. If you don’t submit them, they won’t be considered. Bates does not offer merit aid, nor do any of the other NESCACs.

Oh, I guess I could have easily researched whether or not they even had merit-based aid, had it occurred to me to do so  Thank you!

I believe Bowdoin and Holy Cross are also SAT optional and also full need schools.
