I took the SATs once and got M: 690 CR: 640 WR: 740 (2070). I took the ACT once as well, and got a 33. My SAT IIs were Bio (680) and Math II (690). I know i should submit my ACT, but should I submit my SAT and SATII's with it or will that hurt me? My reach schools are Wesleyan, Swarthmore, and MAYBE Dartmouth. I'm taking the SAT's again this year, so there's chance for improvement. What should I do?

Google the conversion chart.......a 33 is equal to a 1460 - 1500. The answer is easy!

ACT definitely, you can get into an ivy with that ACT score [if you've taken SAT2s and done ECs]

Um, I think you're looking at an old chart because there's no way a 33 is equal to a 1500 when the max score is 2200. Maybe when it had a max of 1600.

Thanks for the replies. My only issue with the ivies is my gpa. i get mostly a's, but for the past couple years i've been getting b's in math and science, so it's affected my gpa. our school say a 4.0 is an A. weighting for honors and ap classes (i've been in all of them that were possible for me to take) is .5 but my gpa unweighted is a 3.75 and weighted is a 4.08. i am editor in chief of the school newspaper, a gold award candidate for girl scouts, and an officer in the wind ensemble. is this good enough for me to get into those schools, even though my grades haven't been great?

The posters are referring to a concordance that converts ACT scores to SAT CR+M scores (max 1600), a standard still used by many schools.

BTW, the max combined score for the SAT is 2400.

As to the OP's query, the ACT score is comparatively stronger (and congratulations on achieving it). However you still might need to submit your SAT scores in order to deliver the subject scores to you schools of interest (or perhaps not, depending on the admissions requirements of your target schools).

I thought most schools required the ACT with writng OR the SAT with SAT subject tests. ??

A few require the ACT or SAT, plus SAT subject tests.

Sort of in the same dilemma. I took SAT Reasoning in May and got a 2040, and ACT in June and got a 31. I will be taking the ACT again tomorrow and I'm confident I'll be getting a 32+. However, I am already registered for the October SAT Reasoning but haven't prepared for it at all, especially with college apps on my mind.

Should I just take the SAT in hopes of scoring higher, or cancel it and settle with my ACT score? Would my 2040 on the SAT look negative, when compared to my 32+ ACT score, and hurt my chances?

Your current scores are essentially equivalent. If you score a 32, you'll need about a 2180 SAT to improve on it. However, many schools superscore the SAT (only a few do so with the ACT), so you might really need to improve in only one or two sections of the SAT to achieve that score. Only you can decide if the chances of improvement warrant the time you spend on the SAT and whatever preparation you do for it.

Schools universally affirm that they consider only your best score when presented with a choice of both. Do not, therefore, take the SAT simply to bring your scores in line. Take it only if you think it will exceed your ACT-equivalent score.

Of course, if you have not already sent the SAT report to your schools of interest, you need not do so.
