Should I switch dorms?

I found out at orientation that in order to be in an LLC (living
learning center), I have to take a class with it. I thought it
was just a club-type study group thing, not a full on class. I
said I didn't wanna take the class, but they said that I would
be removed from Read as a result. The old lady there tried to
give me "under the table" advice hahaha, and to conveniently
NOT sign up for the class, and when they catch me it might be
too late to relocate me.

I was gonna follow that plan for awhile, then I remembered that
someone made a thread about people having to sleep in the
living rooms because there weren't enough dorm rooms (it was a
big ol' rant thread from a few pages back). Do you think when they
catch me that could happen to me? Should I just openly express
my situation and request to still stay in my dorm? Or just keep quiet
about it?

Oh, and for the easier question of the day, does anyone know
where I can find the textbook that my specific teacher uses? I
wanna start looking early :)

I can't help you on the dorm switch question.

Re: textbooks, if you already have your schedule, you should know which section # you are registered for. Go to the IU bookstore website (or the TIS Bookstore site) and navigate to the Textbook purchase page. There you will be able to find out by class and section what the required textbooks are and how much they cost, either used or new. If you can, make note of any ISBN #s, but definitely the edition #. With that info, you can search online for better deals. You can google by isbn or title of the book. Just make sure you buy the correct edition.

The uncontrollable flaw of this system is that some profs haven't made the info available yet.

My son has had pretty good success buying his books from TIS. They have an option where you can order online and they will ship them to you at home fairly inexpensively. This means one less line you need to stand in during Welcome Week.

Good luck!

You might contact RPS and see if you can be moved from the LLC to the academic community in Read which does not require a class. They are actually pretty nice to deal with on the phone. If they can switch you to anywhere in Read it is supposed to be pretty quiet overall. By the way, TIS had a deal during orientation that guaranteed 50% back when you go to sell your books for first semester freshman, but I think you had to submit your schedule to them in person not online. YOu might check into it.

As long as you tell them you are a freshman who bought the books there and are a TIS Rewards customer, they should give you the 50% buyback. However, a better idea would be to switch books with a friend... (M118 for M119 etc...) Then you can simply sell them back at the end of the school year and would not lose the money on buying a second book.
