Should I Switch Majors?

I have a 2.73 after two semesters due to some poor grades this past semester...

I think I can get a 4.0 the next two semesters, which would put my overall GPA at around a 3.4. I am trying to get into Smith School for Accounting so do you think a 3.4 would do it? I don't have any other special credentials or traits that would get me in otherwise.

Need to decide whether to switch now or go hard and try and get in still, but if the chance is very low then I may not even bother.

Go hard regardless. But you’re right, chance of transferring in looks very small now, and the 4.0 is no guarantee.

Not sure why you wouldn’t at least try. With that said though, 3.4 is kind of a grey area. No one can tell you if you will or won’t get in. I will say a 3.4 is definitely not a guarantee though.

Not sure how you know what your gpa “will” be since you haven’t taken finals yet. If you do well on them, it could make a huge difference. Don’t stop running before you reach the finish line.

Remember, there is now the plus/minus grading system. So, getting a 3.5, for example, is now harder than it was prior to this year. Getting a 4.0 is much harder since an A- only gives a 3.7 where it used to give a 4.0. So, you don’t know what the average “minimum” gpa for transfer consideration to Smith will be going forward.

CriesandWhispers and TerpGuy are absolutely right that you should give it all you got. Stay off cc/internet for next few days and focus only on studying… Best of luck!

You can get in with a 3.4 and a letter of recommendation would also help. I got in with a similar gpa. I hated accounting and finance though so I switched majors to cs. Just try hard and get good grades. Make sure you really like accounting because the subject in my opinion can be really boring.
