Should I switch schools? ADVICE PLEASE

Hi everyone,

I currently attend a small private school in the US that only offers the full IB diploma. I am a junior and have received perfect grades in pre-IB but am finding myself already struggling in the DP. I have the option to switch to a public HS nearby but it does not have the best reputation for academics. I realized the switch may be detrimental towards my future because I’m not sure if I’ll be able to join any APs at the public school because they started school about two months ago. I’m honestly not happy whatsoever at my current school and am feeling really overwhelmed with everything resulting in receiving lower grades than I usually get. I already do not have a good relationship with my teachers and been having problems with friends. I’m not sure what I should do… any advice?

I’m really aiming for a top 20 ranked university. I don’t want to ruin my future, but I would really like to enjoy the last two years of high school.

First I would say that expand your horizons beyond Top 20 Universities…you need to have many realistic options.

Secondly, if you can’t make it through the Diploma program I don’t think you are ready for Top 20 unis.

You are are only a small ways into the IB program…start talking to your teachers and guidance counselors about what you are struggling with. The more you talk to your teachers, the better relationship you will have. If you have bad relationships with all of them, then it is you, not them. Talk to your GC about better ways to interact.
