i'm a junior right now and my GPA, 4.06, is lower than the accepted range of most UC's I'd like to get in. I kinda messed up sophomore year and junior year I didn't take that much AP classes because I didn't really know if I could handle it. My question is do colleges look at senior year's class and GPA? and when I apply will they see my boosted GPA or my current GPA, which is 4.06.
The classes that I'm planning on taking are :
AP Cal AB
AP microeconomics
AP physics
AP Statistics
AP US government

My reason for taking AP classes is the GPA. I'm not really as concerned about the AP exam. I'm not taking them to challenge myself. I don't think senioritis will affect me as much, but I'm not completely sure. The colleges I wanna get into are UCSD, UCLA and at the very least UCI or UCD.

I think it’s always a mistake to take classes because of what you perceive to be an adcom’s preference. Take what YOU want to take, because YOU have an interest in that area. If that means you are not a fit for that collge - oh well, their are a LOT of schools out there that will want you for what you did take.

Well I wanna major in engineering, and I’m already taking everything that’s offered to me that relates to my major. Also, I find most of the classes I’ve taken and planning to take interesting, except for World History.

It really depends on what you can handle. Some kids do fine with 6 or 7 APs; others find 3 overwhelming. If you think you can handle 5, then go for it.

Well what I don’t know is do UC’s, specifically UCLA, look at senior grades? How much do the senior grades matter? Do they only reject the bad senior grades? Will my senior GPA count toward the final weighted GPA that they’ll receive? And if they do, will the 2nd semester’s grade count toward the weighted GPA or just the first?
I wanna raise my current weighted GPA, which is 4.06, to 4.2 and thats the only reason why i’m taking so many AP classes senior year. If UC’s won’t even look at my senior grades, I wouldn’t bother taking so many AP classes.

my son is a senior in HS. i doubt his straight As in the senior year will help him in the eyes of UC admission officers. I will say this though, college essays require a LOT of work/time. It is much more challenging than any AP class in HS.

so you’re saying I should not take the ap classes that I’m only taking mainly to raise my GPA? And that I should only take the classes that I enjoy, because colleges won’t care as much anyways?

I wish I would have learned that before my junior year.

Problem is i’ve already taken every AP classes that interest me. I was wondering if I should take AP microeconomics and government just for the GPA bump, but I guess its pointless.
