Should I take 5 AP's or 4 Junior Year

I have mostly A’s in honors classes.
Next week we have scheduling for Junior Year.
I plan on taking:

  1. AP Computer Science
  2. AP Calculus AB
  3. AP Statistics
  4. AP Language and Composition (thinking about not taking)
  5. AP US History (Thinking about not taking)
    and Physics Honors.

Should I just take honors for 1 of the AP’s

Foreign language?

I am dropping Spanish for AP Statistics

No, don’t. Top schools will except an AP Foreign Lang. or equivalent.

But I will probably get a B in spanish 4 HNS and I can get an A in stat

If you haven’t taken a programming class before, I would discourage taking AP Comp Sci. However, if you’re really really strong in math, then i guess you can consider it. And I think you should taking AP Language. I am taking that class this year and I think it’s really helpful. It even improved my critical reading sat score

I have over a 100 in Com Prog right now. I am really good at math (I have a 97 in pre cal hns).

im taking 4

AP LANG
AP US HISTORY
AP CHEMISTRY
AP PHYSICS 1

my two other classes are:
College Calculus
French 4H (If you check my profile i had a question about french 4H)

Why are you thinking about not taking this? Personally, I think that this class shouldn’t be dropped.

I can take LA 3 hns instead

What colleges are you aiming for?
Top colleges will expect 4 years each of English, Math, Foreign Language, Science, and Social Science. For Foreign Language, it may not mean 4 years in high school, but completion of level 4 or AP, even if this is done in fewer than 4 years.
I would drop AP Stats (considered a “light” AP for students who can’t/won’t take calculus - it can be useful for anyone who hopes to study social sciences or business, but can be added to your senior schedule if you want an easy-ish class.)
Between AP English Language and AP USH, if you have to drop one, it’d be AP USH, if you can replace it by Honors US History. AP Language is really useful in preparation for college.

I am taking American Studies 1 Hns already and i don’t want to take AS2. Also I know some people who got into GA tech and Caltech without 4 yrs of Language. I am in Spanish 3 Hns

Just because you “know someone who” doesn’t mean it’ll apply to you. When it comes to super selective colleges, you don’t want to rely on a single reference point.
In addition, many top tech schools not only require a Math and Science recommendation, but often also require a recommendation from a social science or humanities teacher.
It takes a lot more than perfect scores on the SAT (note that 800 is the “average” score for SAT2 at Caltech…) – that’s just the start.

To get into CalTech, or MIT, of GATech, you’ll need to show advanced, specialized excellence in STEM AND a good background in all other subjects PLUS have recognized achievement in science.
Also, keep in mind that all ABET accredited engineering programs will require at least 2 semesters of English/composition/lit, plus 3 social science classes, and many top schools actually require more.

you don’t need 4 years of foreign language. I know someone who only took 2 years (ORM, high income, etc.) who got into 6 ivies and several other top schools. And drop AP Lang. if the thought of the class really makes you uncomfortable (I personally loved the class, but I know classmates who struggled a LOT).

^RunningForLife, just because you know ONE person, whose total profile you don’t know, got into top schools with only 2 years of foreign language, doesn’t justify thinking it’s applicable in general. Look at the language placement/flow charts and you’ll see the “default” starting point is for kids who took AP Foreign Language or had a very strong FL4 level (3 pathways depending on results on placement test).
In addition, taking only 2 years probably means your friend had to take 4 full semesters of foreign language (vs. typically 2 for a student who is roughly an AP3) and at the college level, the pace is really brutal not to mention the workload is as tough as for engineering classes.

tbh just take AP gov or something. Colleges don’t care anyways smh
