If I am planning to apply to 2~3 midwest colleges such as U of Wisconsin, Michigan or northwestern, but also to 5~6 other colleges in the east coast, should I take both SAT and the ACT ?
I am a junior currently, and I have no idea what ACt is like. I studied only SAT so far and I am planning to take my first SAT(new) this march.
(By the way, I got 193(93% percentile) on the Psat)

If your concern is that those midwest schools prefer the ACT over the SAT, then that is not a reason to take it. All accept the SAT, have no stated preference, and evaluate those who submit SAT's on the same basis as those who submit ACT's. That is actually true for almost every college in the nation.

There could, however, be other reasons to take the ACT. Many who take the ACT do better on it than the SAT -- although the opposite of that is also true for many. Thus if you struggle with the SAT, you may want to give the ACT a shot. The ACT also has another possible advantage. A number of high ranked schools that require SAT II's in addition to the SAT will actually take the ACT in lieu of both the SAT and SAT II's; among those are Yale, Brown, Penn, Tufts, Amherst, Wesleyan, Wellesley, John Hopkins, Boston College, Duke, and Vassar.
