I only hear about the SATs at my school. Is the ACT only offered in some states? So far the schools I've been looking at accept the SAT or the ACT. What's different about them? Which do people do better on? If I have the opportunity to take both, should I?

THe ACT is a whole different test that's mainly accepted/required by midwest colleges. However, most colleges accept either one. The act has a science reasoning section as well and is scored out of 36. More information can be found at www.act.org.

cypress,
my d took both. her best ACT was 32. Her SAT was equivalent to a 31 ACT...........so......she scored better on the ACT. You might consider taking both tests and then submit the one with the best outcome. Be sure to take the ACT plus writing because some schools may now require the writing section.

i'm like condor. i took the ACT and SAT and my ACT score was much higher than my SAT score. so take both and see which one you do better on.
