After doing some research on CC and the UCLA Honors horrendously non-updated website, I have found only two benefits to honors: priority registration and distinction with honors. I care more about the former because I know registration for incoming freshman can be a pain.

Should I do ucla honors simply for registration? And say that i can't keep up with the 3.5 gpa requirement... what will happen?

o btw the application form for UCLA honors contains typos... which makes me worry...

I'd love to know how many of those accepted at UCLA were offered the honors program. Also, of course, what any current UCLA students think of it. Thanks!

you guys, it's fine to just test things out for a bit. there's no immediate commitment. it's not like you have three classes and that once you enter honors your entire courseload changes and you can't get out of some sort of contract. it's quite flexible.

search for my threads started and look at the honors one. Dean Alt - i answered your question there . . .

I searched the entire forum for your name and the word "honors" and just followed a bunch of random threads from there. I assume that is what you had in mine, right?

It looks like this one might be your bottom line on the subject!

What percentage? I don't know but if you click on the few links about what's required to enroll in the program, that should sum it up [GPA & SAT cut-offs].

My guess is at least 50% of the freshman admitted to UCLA would meet those tests. It was surprising to hear so little mention of it in the UCLA acceptances, almost as if everyone had already figured out it's not big deal. In fact, just got rejected at Berkeley!

At some of the lesser UCs, it seems that honors is a bigger deal. I was really impressed by the honors program at UCI, which even has honors housing, and the folks in it seem to be quite the chummy team.

We are attending an honors day at UCLA on the 4th. Are you at all involved in that?

hewhothrows, Yes take advantage of UCLA Honors. Priority registration is a sacred commodity on this campus. Honors also includes unique seminars, the opportunity for smaller classes and your big classes will often have the honors discussion led and graded by the professor not T.A.'s

UCLA PHD - I thought the housing guy suggested it helped for housing but probably misunderstood. Does it help at all? Right now, they expect 80% of freshman to get triples! Ouch!

No not housing that I know of. Priority enrollment yes; housing i doubt it. And triples do suck sorry hahaha. But I only slept in mine when i was an undergrad i was always out on campus or with friends.
