I am a current freshman in Honors Geometry. I was thinking of taking Algebra II in an online summer course that would take 120 hours to complete. I want to do this to take precalc as a sophomore and then Calc as a junior and senior. Is this a good idea or should I just take Alg 2 in school?

Yea go for it. There’s not much you’ll have to cover anyway. Plus, a lot of the stuff in Algebra 2 will be covered in Pre-Calc. I took pre-calc over the summer a couple summers back and did fine in calc. Good luck.

There’s no point unless it allows you to get farther in math by the end of your senior year than you would have gotten otherwise, unless you’re really fascinated by Algebra II and just want to study it on your own.
(Are you planning to take AP Calculus AB in your junior year and AP Calculus BC in your senior year? Does your school require this or could you just go straight from pre-calculus to BC?)

I think it’d be easier to do Pre-calc over the summer rather than Algebra 2, but I have never skipped a math class so I don’t know for sure.

After you take that summer course, you can do what I did. Self study Calculus AB in freshman year. Take the AP exam. Get a 5. Go take Multivariable Calculus in Sophomore year. (If they offer it of course)

Yes you should do it. Algebra 2 is probably one of the easier math classes to take over the summer

Some people argue that pre-calc is easier to do over the summer and others say Algebra II. Which one should I do?
P.S Algebra I i had a 98 average and geometry I have a 96

I would skip alg 2 because precalc rehashes the stuff you need from alg 2. Plus skipping precalc would make it EXTREMELY difficult to go straight to BC. That’s essentially skipping two consecutive courses…

If you want to get ahead, do it now. I took precalc over the summer, and it was okay. Algebra II would be much easier to take over the summer than precalc. Now I’m in AP Calc as a Junior.

It was a lot of work (I basically did homeschool), but I believe it was worth it to get ahead.

^ I agree; I also took pre-calc over the summer after sophomore year. I think Algebra II is pretty easy, it’d probably be easier to take over the summer.

Precalculus was a lot easier than Algebra II, in my opinion. Maybe not the concepts… but Algebra 2 was so much work and there were like conic sections and crap. Ew. Still, I’d say go for it.

In my case, Algebra II was a joke - I didn’t need to study hardly at all.
Pre-calculus, on the other hand, was ridiculously hard (partly because I had the most intense math teacher for this). I did learn a lot, though!
I would recommend Algebra II over the summer. Its mostly just some new equation forms to memorize, and graphing. Pre-calculus throws in a lot of unseen concepts, so its nice to have a teacher for it.
