Next year, junior year, I want to take AP Statistics, but I’ve read that AP Calculus is the preferred class by universities…
@NoticeMe Take Calculus. If you want to take Stats, consider it as an elective, but top-tier colleges will not accept it as replacement, even if you want a Poli Sci major. If you can excel in Calculus, colleges know that you will do well in any field. The same is not true of stats.
Many colleges require you to have completed calculus regardless of your major; it depends on the requirements of the school. It’s used in economics, for example, not just the sciences, so you’d be better off having done it. You could wait until your senior year, of course, if you feel like it’d overwhelm you in your junior year (and then you could take AP Stats junior year). The lousy thing about high school is that you’re expected to do well in everything and you’re expected to pursue rigor in everything even though when you get to college, there will be a number of disciplines you’ll completely ignore/avoid.
Next year, I’ll also be taking AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology, and AP History, so it may overwhelm me. I’ll take AP Calc AB my senior year. Thank you.
