Should I take an extra year at CC before transferring?

Hello everyone. I’m currently a freshman and after some thorough planning of how my schedule will pan out if I transfer on time vs. taking an extra year, I’m still stuck on what might be best for me. I’m a dance major and boy did I not realize how behind I am on credits, even though I’m attending school at full time and a half!!! I’m a freshman and I took 17 credits last semester, 3 over the winter intercession, and taking 17.5 this semester. Yet I’m STILL a little behind. In order to transfer on time, complete all GE requirements, and still get my AA degree in dance, I would need to take 4 classes this summer, 8 classes in Fall ‘18 and 8 classes in Spring ‘19. I’m sure I could do it, as I’m currently taking 8 classes right now, but I was certainly hoping to lighten my load a little because sometimes I do feel overwhelmed as I also work about 15-20 hrs a week.

Now, on the other hand, if I were to take an extra year, this would allow me to get started with tacking on the business and accounting classes I want to take in conjunction with my dance major and GE classes, as my ultimate goal is to open a dance studio and teach, so business classes are necessary at one point or another. Not planning to follow any specific major or minor for business, just classes that I feel would best apply to small business owners. My schedule would be: 3 classes this summer, 6 classes in Fall ‘18, 5 classes in spring ‘19, 2 classes in summer ‘19, 5 classes in fall ‘19, and 7 classes in spring ‘20.

What would you recommend? Will I end up hating my life if I take an entire extra year of college (though it gives me opportunity to take business classes)? Or will I hate my life more if I cram a bunch of classes in to finish on time?

Take the extra semester or year. Lots of students do. And you are essentially double-majoring in unrelated subjects. That always means having to make big adjustments.
