Should I take anatomy/physiology?

My school is offering a new course starting in the 2015 school year and I'm not so sure if I should take it... It seems pretty cool and I want to go to pre-med, specifically at JH or UCI? Do you think it'll impress them or not? My other option is to take AP Chem but I heard it's an extremely difficult course.

It is a great course, but does require dissecting of an animal (mostly likely a frog or something of that nature). It all depends on what you are interested in! I’m taking it next year for senior year, pretty psyched!

I also took AP Chemistry in 10th grade and did not enjoy it at all. So I would SO go with anatomy and physiology.

I’m taking Anatomy and Physiology next year! Along with Genetics :stuck_out_tongue: I’m super excited because I’m really into bio, and I love the teacher.

I took Anatomy/Physiology this year, and it helped me decide that being a doctor is not for me, but I still had so much fun in the class and really learned a lot! My sister took the same class and is now in med school, and she said it built a really good foundation for her, so if that’s what you want to do then I would definitely recommend taking it. You can always take chem 101 in college if you don’t have space for it now.

My daughter took a one-semester anatomy and physiology course in her senior year. Their main dissection was a cat. Although I thought it would bother her, she really enjoyed it. The second half of the year she took organic chemistry which, while it was not a substitute for a college course, she thinks will be very useful.

She had already taken AP chemistry but her college doesn’t accept the test (nor AP bio) as a substitute for their own classes for biomedical science students.

If you want to take Anatomy and Physiology, go ahead.

But I found my Anatomy class to be a little easy, because it wasn’t an Honors or AP course. And it probably won’t impress colleges, because it’s just a basic intro course and even if you’re pre-med, 99% sure you won’t use what you learned in your college courses (unless it’s another Anatomy related course).

I regret not taking AP Chemistry because JHU does give you credit for it. Then again, maybe it’s for the best, because if you’re not a Chemistry major and don’t find it an easy subject, you do not want to have to take higher-level Chemsitry courses as a pre-med.

If you approach it as an elective such as auto mechanics or band, sure take it.

If you are trying to make your resume more impressive for college, steer clear. There are more challenging courses and it is not like you are going to take the class and be ‘ready’ to be a doctor.

I would recommend it more for kids looking to go to trade school along the medical lines. A serious college-bound student really does not need an elective like this. If it is for fun. Enjoy!

Thank you so much, you guys. I’m going to take 7 classes and perhaps incorporate it along with another science class. You guys are awesome!!
