I will take a shot since your IB math curriculum is the nearly the same as at my dc’s school.
At our school kids who plan to major in business, social science or anything other than hard core STEM fields take SL. Even students who plan to major in Biology, Geology or other less math intensive sciences are steered toward SL. Students who plan to major Engineering, Math, Computer Science, Physics, and the like take both AP and HL.
