I'm an incoming senior and i'm in a predicament. I know taking both AP classes together would be extremely tough, but I signed up to take both classes. This would be in addition to my AP stats, AP lit, AP econ/gov, and AP spanish classes. Also, i'm on my school's math team, speech team, BPA, and varsity tennis team. Today, my teacher asked me if i would be interested in being co editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. Now i'm wondering if engaging in all these activities would be too much. I figure I can either drop chemistry and take an easier class, suck it up and work through it, or cut back on some of my other clubs (something I'd rather not do!). My question goes out to anyone who has taken both AP chem and AP bio together, and what they felt about taking both classes together..

I took AP bio and AP chem together and i was fine… but then I didn’t do as much as you did… my advice is to not do too much. I only take 4 AP classes max in the same year.

I’m in both right now. If you’re doing all of that extra stuff then I wouldn’t take chem. If you have a bad memory though, then I wouldn’t take bio

Are you taking both of them at your school? (my school doesn’t allow dual-enrollment for any one subject, it really sucks).
However, my friend (from Chicago) is taking both and she has gotten A’s and A-'s so far. But she only has three other AP classes and two (inactive) clubs. At my school, the editor-in-chief stays at school until nine sometimes. So you might want to factor that time commitment in. I’m not sure how much things change if you’re a co-editor-in-chief though…

I would say don’t do it. If you struggle in one class, you’re not going to have room to recover… given that your classes are good classes that will really prepare you for the AP test.

my ap bio teacher taught me so well I laughed at the AP test.
AP chemistry, however, my teacher did not and i had to teach myself.
I took them different years, but if i had taken them together, i would have died because i needed an excessive amount of time to teach myself chemistry

I took both too. It’s definitely doable, but a lot depends on the workload of your other APs. At my school, AP Spanish, Stats, Gov, and Econ are pretty low intensity on the workload front, and one of the AP Lit teachers is pretty easy, so I would say it’s doable, but I think that varies from school to school. With editor-in-chief, it could get pretty tough.
I’d say that you can do it, but having a life is going to be tough. I hear that is the CC way, but, then again, you do only live once.
So if you want to sleep and have some semblance of a life, drop AP Chem.
If you want what could be a little extra edge in your app, particularly if you are a science major, and you aren’t afraid of making sacrifices, go for it.
