Right now, I am a sophomore and I’m trying to decide on if I should take Ap biology or Ap chemistry junior year. As a freshman, I took honors biology and got a 96%, and right now in chemistry, I have a 102%(We’ve done about 5 out of the 10 units). If i were to base my decision off of enjoyment level, I liked biology a lot more then I’m enjoying chemistry right now. Btw I’m planning on taking Ap calc Ab/Bc,Apush/Ap Lang,Spanish 3 honors, and Computer programming 1(online). Thanks for the help!
I’ve had experience with both AP Biology and AP Chemistry (your predicted junior year schedule looks almost identical to mine except for AP Calc and Computer Programming; I took AP Psych and Algebra 2 H). They both are very hard and notorious GPA killers at my school. I managed to get As in AP Biology and a 5 on the exam, but I feel AP Chemistry is a bit harder; almost everybody failed the first two tests; I pulled low Ds on both, and managed to end up with a very low A (91) after a generous curve as my first quarter grade.
You might want to take a third option and go for AP Physics 1 next year. At my school, at least, it’s one of the easiest AP sciences you can take; it has no prerequisites outside of standard Algebra 2 and is commonly taken by sophomores who have not had any experience with an AP science course before. Most of the people I know made A’s in there, but did not pass the exam. Also, a lot of people think that you need physics, chemistry, and biology to be competitive for top schools, and you’ve taken bio and chem already.
What do you want to major in?
If Engineering, it might be best to take AP Chem (now that you remember it) and then AP Physics Senior year. You will have to take both of those in college.
If Pre-med/humanities, take either one. If you liek Biology, take AP Biology and then AP Physics senior year. You will take Bio, Chem and Physics in college.
