Alright, alright..I know this is a trite question but I still couldn't get my answer after reading almost every post on the internet about this topic. So, I got As in all my math classes and I was always considered the math genius. I even taught the teacher things she didn't know. So, it will be my junior year this year and I want to know if I should take AP Calc AB, then BC, or just take BC..I'm pretty good at math but I don't want to risk a bad grade because it is the harder class. I just want to get at least 2 semesters of college math out of the way..I also have AP Lang and AP US History..do you think I could get an A in this class if I worked hard

Bump…bump…

I never took Calc AB and I got a five on the Calc BC test, so I generally recommend going straight into Calc BC unless you’re not comfortable with math. If you’ve taken pre-calculus, definitely go ahead and do Calc BC. Do you know how you’re going to fill the empty spot in your schedule senior year? Are you going to take multivariable and/or some other elective? Because if you have nothing else to take senior year, you might as well take both calculus classes, but if there is something else you would rather take, then I would say go straight into Calc BC.

Please answer yall

Please guys thisis an emergency

My daughter never loved math, but made As and got a 770 on the math SAT because she worked hard. So, not a math genius. However, her school only offered AP Calc AB, so that’s what she took and she said it was surprisingly easy, much easier than the Honors Alg II class she took sophomore year.

If you’re naturally good in math, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t take the BC class and why you shouldn’t get an A if you work hard. You might enjoy it better than the AB class anyway, especially if math is your thing. I do think that if your school offers the BC level class, that’s what you should take, even if it means getting a B, because colleges will probably look more favorably on a B in BC than on an A in AB.

This is especially true if you’re looking at a math intensive major.

If you are smart enough to be two years ahead of math then you are smart enough for BC. AB is more or less for seniors or kids who are “above average but not necessarily spectacular” at math (or if your school doesn’t offer BC!)

If you’re a straight A math student and considered a ‘genius’ by peers, you’re probably ready for Calc BC.

bump again…

You’ve gotten 4 responses saying the same thing. If you want to take AB so badly, do it instead of waiting for someone else to suggest it.

Take BC if you’re a “math genius”. AB would be too slow for you.

I say take Calculus AB and self-study Calculus BC since I think Calculus BC is 60% AB so you would only have to study 40% new material

Alright so the BC exam is easy as hell to get a 5 on… I can’t say for sure about your actual class since I don’t know the level of difficulty at your school but AP Calc BC was relatively easy for me, and I would say that I pretty accurately meet the description that you provided for yourself.
AT the beginning of my school year I really struggled in the class… The only reason for this is that I went from a really crappy school to one of the toughest public schools in the nation. My precal foundation was very weak. Soon however I got used to the fast pace of the class and it became one of my blow-off classes that I never had to study for. Since I had a low B for 1st semester I had to work pretty hard at the end of the year so that the 1st and 2nd semesters would average out to a flat 90. I ended up taking the final exam even though I was exempt to raise my 2nd semester grade to the point where it would average with my 1st semester and give me a flat 90. At the end of the year I ended up getting an A for both semesters.

So, to answer your question, YES definitely take BC. If you are not moving schools (Like I did, which made my BC class much harder since I had a crappy precal background) then it is a no-brainer. Go for it. On the other hand, I would NOT suggest AP Bio which was the hardest fricken class I have ever taken in my life. So yeah, go for it. Also, if you take BC then you can take Physics C. Not to mention a tougher class like BC will look good on your transcript.

it depends on your school. at my school, ab was really easy, while bc was incredibly hard. i chose to take ab to lighten my course load a bit. i regret it somewhat, but i also think bc would have been incredibly stressful. it sounds like you are good enough at math that bc wouldnt be too hard.
