Should I take Ap English language and composition?

I am stuck between taking regular English or Ap English my junior year. I am not very good at writing. I took pre Ap English 2 this year and ended with an 85. If I struggle with writing should I take Ap English?

Probably not, as the 3 Essays are pretty critical parts of the AP Exam.

However, in class, you might not have to do as much writing, so the choice is up to you (although I would learn on the side of no if you had an 85 in English II Honors)

Will taking AP English help you write better?
What does your teacher think?

Ask your teacher: I remember when my teacher did Pre-AP Lang, she had opinions about each and every student’s capacity to be successful in the AP class by the end of the year, and even encouraged some out of taking it the following year. Talk to yours and see how much harder it will be and if she thinks that you have the capacity to succeed and get an A.

Personal experience wise, I hated every single English class in HS, and made an 89 in pre-AP Lang, but still ended up with a 93 final score in the AP class, a 5 on the AP exam the following year (which I will be using to skip a 100-level english elective), and my writing abilities have improved because of it. I’m happy with my decision.

Not saying your path will turn out like that, but it’s worth considering those potential benefits.

If you hate writing, then don’t take AP Language. This course is essay-heavy and requires a LOT of essays.
