Hi!

I just moved to a new school and my counselor doesn't let me take AP English class because of the school law.
Should I fight for AP English class? I want to go STEM Field..such as MIT/Caltech/GT

Is it true that top universiteis like to see AP English on the transcript?

thank you!

It’s not worth making a fuss over this. If this were Calculus or Physics it can be a lost opportunity.

However, if the colleges see that you did not choose the most rigorous English course in your high school, that may be a negative aspect on your application. It may be partially mitigated by the counselor noting that you were not allowed to choose the most rigorous course by school policy, while indicating that you took the most demanding course selections on the counselor recommendation.

I am taking the most rigorous classes by counselor. So, will it be ok? but I really want to take AP english though, I heard from many friends that it actually help one to improve their reading and writing skills… lol

By the way, I might major in Buisness in uni.

Business is not generally considered a STEM field.

I know bro, I will have to choose between STEM and Business ;))

A perfect GPA with harder course difficulty will always be looked upon better than a perfect GPA with lower course difficulty.

If you think you can pull a 4.0 with AP Lit, DEFINITELY talk to your counselors. Remember, never “fight” with your counselor, because one bad word in their letter of recommendation can turn an acceptance into a rejection. Instead, suck up them, and then pop the question politely. Don’t press for it aggressively if they say no.
