Should I take AP Euro History Sophmore Year?

Freshman here and I was wondering if I should take AP Euro History next year. Three sophmores I've asked said: "it's not worth it" "I struggle to even pass this class" "I hate my life"and stuff like that.
But others said that its harder but that THAT bad.
They say that it is not worth it and that I should take normal European History next year but my parents already plan to make me take it since they those kind of "nothing but A's" "Ivy league" parents.
But I don't know. If I get any more non A's I will (not literally) make it to college alive.
So should I?

Hi! If you are interested in history, I say definitely take it! If it’s for the grades…and you are willing to commit your time and energy to study hard then take it! otherwise, not taking this one class is probably not going to prevent you from being admitted to your top college.
Try going to one of the teachers at your school who teaches Ap Euro and ask them what you should expect (work load, rigor, time commitment).

How are your essay writing skills? A few bad essays (DBQs, FRQs) can really destroy your grade in AP Euro.

I also second what Jen said.

Honestly, I benefited so much from taking an extensive AP History class sophomore year. I took AP World, (one of very few AP’s offered sophomore year at my school) and would say that it wasn’t too bad. AP Euro (took it junior year) was a lot easier than AP World, but that might’ve been because I had the background.

If it’s between AP and standard history, take the AP, especially if you don’t have that many demanding courses next year (not sure if you do or not). In my experience, it was about 2 hours busywork (chpt questions and all that)/5 hours reading or video lectures per week.

Now, if you do take it, there’re a lot of resources you can use for the AP Histories. APUSH and AP World, try John Green’s Crash Course videos. AP Euro, there’s this one youtube lecturer who videotapes his classes ([Roger Stip - YouTube](Roger Stip - YouTube)), and I accredit my 5 to him. I just listened to the lecturers on the school bus/in the car/etc.

As for the essays, they’re learnable.

I was the only junior in a class of seniors, and the class was mixed with a quarter hating the class, a quarter loving it, and half going “it’s not TOO bad”.
