I’m a freshman in all honors classes with a 4.0 GPA. Next year I’m taking honors biology, geometry, health science and I’m debating on whether or not to take AP European history. No social studies classes are required my sophomore year, but taking AP euro history is the only way I can take honors enriched English 2, which is just a more fast paced English class than regular honors. I’ve been approved to be in it but like I said I have to take AP euro history if I want to take that class, otherwise I’ll just have to do regular honors English. Here’s the thing: I don’t mind a lot of work. It sometimes stresses me out but I have enough self-discipline to put that pressure on myself to always get my work done on time. But history is something I’ve always struggled with. I’m excellent at memorizing facts but it just doesn’t stick. Although this is true, I’m currently passing my Honors world history class with a 98. I just fear that once I get to a class where you have to be able to understand the information instead of just memorizing it, I won’t do so well. The teachers have made it clear that there is a lot of reading and vocabulary included in these classes (it’s two semesters) but I wonder if it will be worth it for my future? I’m thinking of becoming a nurse, but that’s subject to change in the next few years. I can’t stand doing anything less than what I know I can do, but I’m stuck here. What should I do? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
If you don’t like it then don’t do it. Find a subject that interests you and where you can score well, unless you want AP class for a higher GPA or really really want advance English class. Every decision has pros and cons so just pick one that seems right for you.
