Hi everyone,
I just finished AP Lang this year, and was lucky to score a 5 (didn’t prep well, and I thought multiple choice was insanely hard). However, when looking at the AP policies of the schools I wanted to go to, AP Lang and AP Lit award credit for the same class (with the exception of New York University). Therefore, I was thinking about “dropping AP Lit” and going to a lesser intensive English course, so I can focus on sure to be challenging APs such as Chemistry and Calc AB. Is this an acceptable solution? Thanks!
Exactly – glad you figured it out. Most universities do not even award credit for that class, so why torture yourself, unless of course you plan to major in literature and it’s a passion. My daughter did what you’re considering – she took the easier English course senior year. She scoffed all year at how ridiculously easy it was, and how they never did anything in the class except watch movies and such, but then she’d add that she’d rather be bored in that class than suffering in the AP Lit class. She saw what her friends were doing in AP Lit and was not envious one bit. No regrets.
I’m looking into business or law with a future career in politics after law/business
For the reasons you mention, it absolutely is acceptable.
I’m going to be the dissenter here. What colleges want to see is that you are challenging yourself (and I daresay if you are interested in politics and/or law you would be well advised to have as strong a background in literature and writing as you can get). Why are you taking AP Chem over an honors or an AP Lit class if you are interested in business/law/politics?
