Should I take AP Physics C if I want to go to med school?

Right now I’m a senior, and my main courses are Anatomy, AP Lit, AP Macro, AP Gov, AP Comp Sci, and AP Physics C. AP Physics C gives a loot of homework and is definitely the most difficult class I have ever taken, even after I self studied AP Calc BC. I’m really on the verge of dropping it, but would it look bad for colleges if I don’t take AP Physics? Also, would taking AP Physics help tremendously in college even though I plan to major in something related to medicine? Btw I’ve already taken AP Bio, AP Chem, and honors physics, so I do have at least a year of the three sciences.

The premed pre-reqs only require two semesters of algebra based physics (similar to AP physics 1-2) so you can drop physics C. See if you can take AP physics 1 or 2 or just a “fun” elective instead.

While true, few med schools accept AP sciences as fulfilling prereqs so you’d either need to retake in college of take a higher level.

But back to the original question, no, it is not needed even for undergraduate admissions. You already have 2 science AP’s - that’s plenty.

It’s a toss-up. OP wants some mighty competitive colleges. I’m unclear whether you previously took any AP physics. That can be more important than anatomy, AP econ, and CS.

Yes, even if you want bio, rigor in physics can matter.

Ehhh. The statement assumes facts not in evidence. Taking 4 AP’s vs. 5 will not, IMO, result in a lower mark on the “course rigor” check box. Of course the GC would need to confirm. Additionally, many states require gov/econ for a HS diploma. Whether that applies to the OP is unknown.

Additionally, there is no school that requires every course to be AP. While I often say that the plural of anecdote is not data, I do need to share that I took astronomy in HS in lieu of an AP, and it did not seem to hurt me. Of course for colleges that the OP is targeting, there are so many moving parts that it is impossible for any of us to say how one thing will impact the application.

?? Not suggesting 5 AP. Am saying, AP physics, specifically, can be more important to a stem wannabe than anatomy or AP CS. Etc.

I use the word “can.” But my personal reaction is strong.

You are fine without the AP physics as long as 1) your guidance counselor will check the box saying you have taken the most rigorous curriculum available at your HS and 2) the class doesn’t show up as a W on your transcript.

If you’ve already taken honors physics, you’re fine. But happy1 is right, if it shows up as a withdrawn, that could be an issue.

Op’s taken Honors Physics, so that’s fine.
Sorry if i was unclear: I wasn’t suggesting that AP physics 1-2 would replace the algebra based physics courses in college but rather that taking AP physics C was of no relevance to being premed, and that if op really, really wanted to take ap physics, AP physics 1 or 2 would be fine too.
