Hi,

I was wondering if I could get some advice on whether or not I should take AP Physics C. The class at my school focuses solely on mechanics; therefor, it stretches out a one semester college course into 2 semesters.

Now I am not much of a science person at all, and frankly, do not like it. I plan to never take science after high school, if possible. However, my school only offers 4 APs so I feel like it is something I have to take in order to have the most rigorous course load.

Anyway, I was wondering, if I am not a science person (not particularly good at science) but have a really firm, good understanding of calculus should I take ap physics c? I am quite good at calc which is the only reason I am considering it even though I hate science.

If anyone could also provide some information on how hard it is and how much the workload is, that'd be great :)

There’s a line somewhere between saying I dislike science, and, consequently, never doing anything scientific again, and disliking science, but still persevering through it and moving on, maybe to find something interesting along the way.

I question why you dislike science, and if that is a result of a bad experience in a previous class (a bad teacher, which is often the case) or something else.

From what I’ve seen, people get so overwhelmed in memorizing equations and trying to plug in numbers on a test that they miss the beauty behind all of it, and that is what makes science interesting. Real science isn’t plug-and-chug equations.

In my opinion, yes, you should go for Physics C. Go into it with a mindset that you’ll give it a chance—sure, you’ll have certain topics that make you cringe, but I think the results, both in what you learn about the world around you, and critical thinking skills, are longer-lasting. Maybe you’ll even find yourself appreciating some facets of it along the way…
