Should I take AP U.S. History (under these conditions to consider)?

I do not mean to sound pretentious… I’m sure all of you know most regular classes, besides chem, physics, etc., are a piece of cake.

Soo, I am not in Honors Modern World History this year. I have a 98 first quarter, 100 second quarter, 100 on midterm, and 100 semester average. I have talked to sophomores who are doing well in APUSH this year, and they didn’t take Honors Modern WH. I am in Honors English, and so far I have done fine. Should I take AP US next year? I want to challenge myself, but does not having the Honors MWH experience affect my chances of success? I don’t want to take a class, get a C-, and get a 2 on the AP Exam (That’s a whole new discussion. I’ll get 1 or 2 Ap exam books for that).

Thanks!!

I don’t really understand why you need to ask this question. You clearly said that others have done fine without taking Honors Modern World History.

You’ll be fine. We didn’t have honors history at my high school and APUSH was usually the first AP class anyone took - trial by fire. If you can read, memorize, and write, you can take APUSH. If the class at your school is anything like the class was at my school, all you have to do is study your brains out and be able to write in a way that supports your viewpoints. That is all. It sounds like you’ll be fine.

Thank you!! Scheduling for soohmore year is just around the corner, and this helped boost my confidence!

You should be fine, I am taking Dual-Credit US History know, but its the same as APUSH. We use an AP book, have papers every week, etc. The only difference is that we don’t have to obviously take the exam and score well. If you know how to be organized, write well, memorize, and interpret information/ideas, then you will be fine. It’s not that hard of a class. Just stay on top of things, I have found flashcards very useful as well as googling “APUSH History Resources” for practice tests and outlines. Best of luck to you!
