Should I take both the SAT and ACT

I am trying to get into an ivy school. Should I take both the SAT and the ACT? If not, which one do you think is more highly esteemed between the SAT and the ACT?

Take the ACT first, if you do exceptionally well no need for SAT I. Then you can just take SAT II. Do not send ACT score to your HS, there is a box to check on registration to have scores only sent to you.

yeah it can’t hurt to take both. i would aim for 2100+ and 30+ just to be reasonably considered for admission (but people with lower scores do get admitted to ivys). colleges don’t have any preference for either test. they just care about your score. so i would take both and see how you do. good luck.

I have already taken SAT I and got 1940. Not too bad but am taking it again next October to raise it (hopefully 2250+).
I also took SAT IIs this month; am waiting for June 26th with bated breath until scores are reported!

To any ACT takers: are there any good study/slash prep books out there for the ACT? Specifically, are there review books that have a math/science/social science topical review? I really don’t want a book filled with tons of tests. I actually want to review the stuff that is going to be on the test.

i would recommend the Real ACT study guide just for practice tests. for review, I’ve heard PR and Barron’s are decent. Personally, I studied barron’s math level 2 book for the subject tests the week before and I feel like it covered all the topics on the ACT more in depth, which made the math section so easy (possibly 36 for me). for english i found sparknotes helpful because it covered typical english questions on the tests and grammar rules. for reading, just read lol and learn to read quickly and comprehend. not sure if you can really study for the reading section. finally for science… i have no idea haha. get your timing down. study for the SATs too. good luck man.

Akittka, thanks so much. You have been very helpful.
