Should I Take Calc 2?

This is actually not a "should I take calc 1 or calc 2" question....

I'm just wondering if I should continue taking math at all. Right now I'm planning on an English/Economics double major (intending to go to law school). Economics only requires Calc 1 which I'm sure I passed with a 4 or 5 on the AP test and a statistics class I will need to take. My teacher recommends taking Calc 2 anyway - she says I may need it in 4 years and by then I won't remember anything from Calc 1.

What do you think? Would it be a waste of time? (Also if anyone who isn't a math genius can comment on the difficulty of Calc 2 for a normal student, that would be great!)

i would highly recommend all econ students to continue taking at least up to calc 3. you will be using calculus again, and virtually all of economics is solving math problems. intermediate micro tends to use a lot of calculus (calc 3 stuff actually, but its not presented as such, and its not a prerequisite).

the first 2 chapters of calc 2 were covered when i took calc ab, so they were basically review. calc 2 isn’t that hard, but i fall into the category of people who think that its that hardest of the calc 1-3 series.

if you cant stand math then it might not be worth it, but if you think you might have gotten a 5 on the AP exam, thats probably not the case. an important question you should consider when deciding whether or not to take calc again: do you have other classes picked out you think would be more worthwhile to take? (time to start thinking of stuff in terms of opportunity costs!) if so, why are they? if the answer is because they’re easier, my opinion is that thats a bad reason. there are good reasons though; for instance, if you genuinely cant fit it into your schedule, or if you really don’t like math.

^thank you that was very, very helpful! I think I will go ahead and take it.

If you are studying economics, you should really consider math classes, even classes past Calc II.

On a side note for myself, should I take Calc III if I am studying accounting? The requirement is the terminal version of Calc II, but I may want to go higher to differentiate myself even if it means a little rigor.

i think math is always a useful class to take, if only because its stimulating. i have no idea how an accounting major might use the specific skills you learn in calc III though. but i literally know nothing about accounting.
