Hi guys,
I just got my class selection sheet for school and am kind of stumped as to what to take next year. This year I am taking BC calculus, and I got an A both quarters/ first semester. Some of my friends are going to be taking Calc 3 next year at CMU or Pitt, so I was considering doing so myself. The other options aren’t great (AP Stats, AP computer science, linear algebra), and I don’t want to slack off for my senior year. Do you guys know if Calc 3 is much harder than BC Calc? Thanks!!!
Linear algebra is not a bad choice. It has quite a few applications in other areas of math, as well as computer science.
Multi-variable calculus is a bit harder and more abstract, but most of it is basically generalizations of what you’ve seen studying single-variable calculus.
It seems as if you’re a strong math student for even considering this. My advice would be to go for Calc 3, as it will look very good for college, IMO. As the above post said, linear algebra would also be a good choice (maybe pair it with AP Stats?), it gives insight onto a different realm of mathematics. Good luck!
Any of the choices, or combination thereof, would be absolutely fine. Calc 3 is slightly harder than Calc BC, but really not by much, IMO.
Thanks guys! I’m still thinking about it. I don’t really know much about Linear Algebra though, which I am hoping to fix
But do you think that taking linear algebra and stats instead of Calc 3 would have a significant impact on whether or not colleges (let’s say like Penn) would accept me? I know that there are other more important determining factors, but there wouldn’t be a big purpose to taking Calc 3 if it wouldn’t appeal much more than the other option would.
I’m taking linear algebra this year, and tbh I hate it. To me it’s really repetitive and not interesting at all. But I really liked Calc BC, and I hope to enjoy Calc 3 next year
