Should I take Calc II this spring?

I'm in my first semester of college as an undeclared major at UIC, and I've decided that I want to major in engineering (either civil/mechanical/or electrical). I took AP Calculus AB in high school and I got a 5 on the AP test. In high school, I had a B in Calc 1st semster and an A 2nd semester. The problem is that I didn't take Calc 2 this semester. I'm not sure that it's the best idea to take Calc 2 this spring when I haven't taken a math class this semester and have probably forgotten some Calc. I feel like I could easily brush up on Derivatives and Integrals, but I'm not sure about the other topics.

Right now, I'm enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts, and I'm planning to transfer into the College of Engineering. I'm also considering transferring to engineering programs at the U of Illinois, U of Wisconsin-Madison, and Purdue, after I complete the prerequisites.

What should I do, as far as deciding on a Math class?

I doubt you need anything other than derivatives and integrals for calc II (from what I recall). I would speak with your adviser but I don’t see a point in taking Calc I if you already got a 5. Especially considering that you’re already behind other engineering majors who will be taking calc II next semester.

Again talk to your adviser, take my advice with a grain of salt.

take Calc 2…don’t let the advisors trick you into taking calc 1 it will probably be a waste of a semester

It could be a waste of a semester, but it could also be an A that can help pad the gpa. Also, it will throw you off track, which, IMO, is good and bad. Good because the courses will be taught by Jr. Profs or TAs (most likely) and they are generally much better teachers, IMO, since they can still talk at our level. Bad because you might not get all the prereqs you need for future courses done in time to stay on track.
