Hi,

So I'm a freshman Biochem major and I'm at the point where I'm not sure if I still want to do/can do science (if I do, I think I'm gonna switch to Psychobio if I like Psych 10 next qtr) or do something else..what exactly I don't know yet either.

So i was wondering if I should continue with the chem series with 30A and see from there. I've heard that THIS is the weeding out class where people figure out if they're cut out for/like science. Is this true? Will taking 30A help me in deciding?

Any other advice (majors, classes...)?

Oh, and is Chem 20L usually offered every qtr? I haven't taken that yet either.

Thanks.

You’ve only gotten your feet wet with science. You’ve already gotten this far with your math and science courses, not to mention you took the harder series (20/30 series as opposed to the 14 series for chem), you might as well see how well you can do if you keep going.

30A should help you decide if you want to stick to biochem. I’ve also heard that Life Science 2 (maybe even lecture 1 during spring?) helps people see if they like physi sci, which is another possible major you could switch to.

Historically, it seems like chem 20L is offered every quarter. I just checked and it has been offered every quarter of this school year.

And I think you should take chem 30A and LS2. Do math if you need to also, which one do you still have to take? But lab classes are a lot of writing outside of class. It may be only 3 units, but you have a pre-lab and post-lab every week.

Ultimately, just find a group of friends (or just a friend) who you can trust and don’t have the strong pre-med competitiveness and just study with them.
