According to my schedule for next year (sophomore year), I will take chemistry. However, if I take chemistry online over the summer, I will be able to take ap chem sophomore year. This way I can take some more ap classes I want to take in my junior and senior years. The only other way to do this would be to drop band, which I really do not want to do. So do you guys think chemistry online in 8 weeks is a bad idea? I'm pretty sure they do not offer it in summer school, so that option is out. I don't know if I should, since I don't want to have a weak base for ap chem, which I know is hard, and its really especially hard at my school.

If you’re motivated enough, go for it. It wouldn’t be a weak base if you study enough to know chemistry really well. Plus, since you’re studying it over the summer, you won’t be having a whole three month gap between regular chemistry and AP Chemistry.

Of course, it could be hard to stay motivated over the summer, especially if it’s an online class. Actually, that last part if just my opinion.

You sound like you’ll be pushing yourself really hard though, and while that could be a good thing…you better make sure you can handle it if you’re going to go through with it.

Online no. You need to take it somewhere that can offer the lab component.

Thanks guys!

Last summer I took chemistry honors online so that I would be eligible for AP Biology. My chemistry background wasn’t as strong as it would have been if I took the class over a year, but I do not regret my decision.

That being said, you’re only a sophomore while I am a junior. You have an extra year than me, so I would use that to your advantage. There is nothing wrong with using a year to learn chemistry. On the other hand, if you want to take multiple science courses like AP Bio, AP Chem, and APES, then I would recommend doing it over the summer. It depends on the determination and the situation.
