Apparently my placement scores have placed me into this category...I can choose to take either College Algebra or Pre-Calc. In high school I've taken Regular Pre-Calc...but it was kind of a joke...and I didn't do so well...getting like B-'s and C's :/ Obviously I'm not going to challenge the placement test so I can take Calculus which would be an awful idea...

So am I better off taking College Algebra or Pre-Calc? I have no idea what college algebra is..it sounds easy (is it?) b/c I'm pretty good at algebra...I don't want to waste my time.

I would really appreciate some input from you guys...

If I were you I’d honestly just take the college algebra. I took AB Calc last year and while I passed the class (C average). I didnt do so hot on my placement test and got placed into College Algebra. My advisor told me that because my major (Urban Studies/International Affairs), doesn’t require any math, why not fulfill the requirement with an innocuous algebra class? It’ll be easy on me and my gpa, and I’ll have more time to focus on my other classes. if your major requires a great deal of math, then go the pre-calc route, if not, then don’t waste your time.

I was thinking about majoring in econ or urban studies/another liberal arts major…but nothing to math intensive … thanks BC1117 I think you’re right! I don’t want to bomb pre-calc…and I think college algebra will give me a good solid foundation.

^ Indeed! If you major in econ, you will at the very least have to take calculus and statistics. Ideally you’d be taking several semesters of math beyond calculus. (If you were interested in graduate school in economics, you’d want a full-blown math major!)
