Should I take CompSci 61B equivalent at my CC or take it at Berkeley?

So my school has an equivalent (sorta) to 61B. I would only have to take COMPSCI 47B when I start my semester after transfer. My question is should I take this route? Would my chances be hurt if I have less pre reqs completed if I don’t take the equivalent?

I’ve heard the 61 series is really good and it helped a ton of people. If anyone has done something similar (take the equivalent of 61B) do you recommend it? Or do you feel you would have been better of just taking 61B.

I think almost anyone who has taken a Data Structures class in CCC is subject to a review as to whether the credit will be granted for CS61B. So it’s possible you might not have to take 47B.

You do have the option of taking the CS61B class again, as opposed to taking 47B. Don’t quote me on this though, this is what I heard from one of the CS advisers.

I took Data Structures, Programming I and Programming II but none of these CCC classes were articulated with UCB. I’ve heard other transfer students saying that CS61A is articulated at some CCC, but honestly never heard that it is possible to take the equivalent of 61B at a CCC. If so, I’d say take it because it might give you an edge over other applicants in a highly selective major such as Comp. Sci.

The community college with course that articulates to UCB CS 61A is Laney College:
http://web2.assist.org/web-assist/report.do?agreement=aa&reportPath=REPORT_2&reportScript=Rep2.pl&event=19&dir=1&sia=LANEY&ria=UCB&ia=LANEY&oia=UCB&aay=16-17&ay=16-17&dora=CS-AB
Laney also has articulation for UCB CS 61B (requires two courses there).

Community college courses articulating to UCB CS 61B are more common than to UCB CS 61A, but still not very common. Example:
http://web2.assist.org/web-assist/report.do?agreement=aa&reportPath=REPORT_2&reportScript=Rep2.pl&event=19&dir=1&sia=DIABLO&ria=UCB&ia=DIABLO&oia=UCB&aay=16-17&ay=16-17&dora=CS-AB

Probably more common are partial articulation of UCB CS 61B, requiring completion of CS 47B after transfer to UCB.

Is there any advantage to taking CS 47B as opposed to 61B? My kid is in the same boat as the OP, having theoretically taken the courses in CCC to articulate out of CS61B. 47B doesn’t look much different than 61B so I’m wondering why the option to articulate is even there. Also how does the CS department evaluate whether the CCC class(es) will articulate completely or not? Do they look at the actual syllabus at the CCC?

Yea if 61B is as highly regarded by students as from what I’ve read maybe its better to just take the partial equivalents to strengthen my application and then take 61B anyways If i do manage to get into Berkeley.
