I plan on taking English 1101 and another class this summer, but I'm not sure which one. My mom said she doesn't think I should take CS this summer because of the rigor, but I kinda want to go ahead and get it out of the way. That way I can concentrate on Chemistry and Calculus in the fall. Any opinions?

Well, Intro to CS used to be weeder out (along with Calculus II, Physic II) class. Now, I hear that it has become easier somewhat in recent year due to student’s complain. Still short course for intro to CS is not best idea, IMHO. Unless you are very familiar with programming, I wouldn’t do it.

I would pick easier courses in the summer semester since it is shorter term.

Check out grade distribution at tech to get some ideas.

For summer 2008, Intro to computing,

17 A, 23 B, 11 C, 2 D, 2F of 56.

That’s pretty good distribution. That course used to be brutal.

CS1371: A’s 66 B’s65 C’s36 D’s16 F’s4(this is for summer 08, i’m thinking summer is easier than other terms) …that doesn’t seem that bad to me but i will definitely take your advice. So you think history will be good to replace it?

i think that’s pretty good as well

History is very easy course at Tech, IMHO. Mostly professors give multiple choices questions. It was one of easier A’s in Tech. Most Tech students don’t take that course very seriously.

Also, check to ratingmyprofessors to find out more information about particular professor. If you have some experience with CS programming, it is not that bad to take CS anymore (based on grade distribution).

Still, if you have Hope scholarship, I would try to get a couple of easy A’s at the beginning. This way there are some buffer rooms for later on.
