Should I take Englsih this year?

Okay so I’ve taken
Freshmen year - English 1
Sophomore year - AICE General Paper (10th grade honors)
Junior Year - Comp l and ll
Senior year - ?

On my transcript, it treats comp l and ll as two separate classes even though i’ve taken them in the same year, but colleges i’m looking into are looking for 4 years/units of english. Should I take another english course and have 5 credits but 4 consecutive years of english or should I be fine?

I would recommend taking an English course every year you are in HS. So even if you have enough credits to graduate, I would not drop English. I would say the same for all your core subjects - English, Math, Science and Social Science.

If comp 1 and 2 are dual enrollment classes then each semester is equivalent to a full year high school English class. It typically fulfills both high school and college admissions requirements. However colleges do like to see English every year. is there a dual enrollment Intro to Literature class you can take? One semester should be fine.

Yes, you should take English every year. Your state will require this and all colleges want it.

Yes. Find a DE humanities class - Classical literature, comparative literature, philosophy…- for senior year.

If I don’t, will it harm me in anyway?

Yes, it’ll seriously hurt your admission chances at most 4-year Universities except the least selective (IE., directionals that admit 80% who meet HS graduation requirements).

Well, based on the title if your post, yes I think you should

Yeah I made a little typo haha

Yikes! I’ll make sure to add it to my schedule asap. Thank you so much

Almost all 4- year Universities want to see English (or equivalent: AP seminar, Philosophy, …) every year. So, if you don’t like the English offerings at your school look at the alternatives.

If you don’t like your HS offerings, look at DE alternatives such as Philosophy, comparative literature, Literature in translation… Or see if your high school offers AP Seminar.

Also most states require 4 years of english to graduate.

I can’t imagine not taking a fourth year of English next year. Is there a class you would find interesting? Alternatively is there a class in an area you want to improve? You may have lots of options or maybe none, but you need something in English to complete your transcript.

I have 4 English credits to graduate, which means I technically don’t have to take it this year. I was just wondering if I should take it again this year because I only took it in my first 3 years of high school and I’m not sure if colleges would accept that I didn’t.

It would look very bad not to have some sort of English class on your transcript each year for all four years, regardless of whether you took two English classes in another year (which may or may not be apparent to someone quickly reviewing your transcript.)

What would stand out to me looking at the English classes you’ve taken is that it looks like you haven’t taken any literature classes (it seems think many of your classes were focused on composition and writing. I would absolutely consider taking AP Literature or a Dual Enrollment English literature class during my senior year if I were you.
