I'm really shooting for a 2100 and I think if I took it a 3rd time in May or June I could get a 650 CR with lots of practice and studying. However, I would probably focus only on CR since my math and writing scores are set. My math score won't drop below a 700, but if I get another low writing score will it hurt my 700 at all? So I'm asking if 30 points more CR for a 2100 (MAYBE...) is worth maybe doing even worse. Or do colleges not really care?

Thanks.

No, I'd agree that they wouldn't care, you're just wasting time, money, stress.

Your CR score isn't going anywhere unless you put in a ton of hours over the summer memorizing vocabulary and perfecting the passages. Your math score could go up by pure luck or making one less stupid mistake. It's not out of the question to get a 2100. The only thing you have to think about is what good is it to you to have a 2100. If your writing score drops bellow 650, colleges may think that the 700 was pure luck. I had the same problem when I was deciding whether or not to retake my SAT the same time last year. I had a 640 in CR, 730 in Math, and 740 in Writing. I knew I could get that math score up and was pretty sure I could get the CR and math scores up, but thought my writing would drop 50 points. I ended up raising each section and got the score I was aiming for. Did it make a difference when I was applying to colleges? I have no clue.

It just seems to me that 2100 looks quite a bit better than 2070...I guess I just look at it the wrong way

If you're going to retake it, only study CR since that's the area that apparently needs the most improvement. I say it's not worth it and focus on other activities.
