I'm currently a junior in high school, I took the SAT in December and am pretty happy with my score, but I can't help wondering if I would do better the second time.

Other than taking the PSAT in October (215), I didn't prep for this exam at all, and my math score reflects this.

So my question is, is it worth it to take it again? Is it possible to make substantial improvement (50+ points) in math by studying on my own? And is it likely that I would score worse?

By the way, my first and second choice schools are UCB and UCSC, I'm not shooting for Ivys here ;)

one of my good friends just recently got accepted to UCB (UCLA, UCSD, USC, DUKE, and others as well). His SAT score was exactly 2200 so i think you’re just fine =]. Of course your acceptance also depends on many other factors as I’m sure you already know.

retake and apply ivy. if you can do it do it. no regrets. go all the way. sat scores are rising every year because its becoming easier and easier to prep for them. math and writing are the most easy to prep for so you could probably take that to 750 and get a 2300. and even if you just love berkeley then why not shoot for a regents scholarship? all im saying is that if you have the potential, don’t get lazy.

You are likely to raise your math score especially if you did not prepare the first time out. But be prepared for that 800 critical reading to come down! I believe 800 CR scores are very difficult to repeat. As far as the 750 writing score …what was the essay score? if you got a 10 you have some upward room there too.
